[djmount] First release of djmount working (Maemo Garage Opensource projects for Nokia N800)
[4 views, last view 1 d, 5 h, 57 min and 16 secs ago]
djmount ables you to mount the uPNP-AV/DLNA network in a fuse filsystem, and then play it with canola 2 for example (canola 2 didn't have support for uPNP). And maybe other software not compatible with uPNP.

CTIA Coverage: The Nokia N810 - WiMAX Edition (Internet Tablet Talk)
[2 views, last view 2 d, 2 h, 41 min and 27 secs ago]
You’ve all seen the press release and the official product page. Below are some additional information I got at CTIA about the Nokia N810 WiMAX Edition:
- It will run Diablo. Update for N810 and N800 coming.
- The email client is now Modest.
- There are no finalized rates/plans yet for XOHM (WiMAX).
- Over-the-air update is now built-in.
- Bulge at the back for better XOHM reception. I didn’t find the slight bulge to be an issue.
- Price will be $475 and should be out 2Q.
- No PIM planned yet.
- No one will confirm if this if the “4 of 5.”
- Connectivity has “Any Connection” option to switch automatically to WiMAX, WiFi, and Bluetooth. There is also an option for “WLAN and WiMAX.”
- Navigation software gets an upgrade.
- Still no video support for Skype.
- Color is black brushed metal, black keyboard, and goldish bezel.
- Case is pretty much the same but inside is carrot orange instead of sky blue.
Full demo video from Satu Sipola, Nokia N810 WiMAX Edition Product Manager after the jump.

[5 views, last view 2 d, 2 h, 46 min and 21 secs ago]
Hi all!
As a new member of the load-applet team I'm glad to introduce a new version of this plugin.
Changes in 0.8.2-3:
* Fix: width/height is now calculated every time before making a screenshot. Previously incorrect image was created if the screen was rotated.
* Improvement: system time now also counts when total CPU usage is calculated.

[BlueMaemo] Introducing BlueMaemo (Maemo Garage Opensource projects for Nokia N800)
[2 views, last view 2 d, 3 h, 19 min and 11 secs ago]
BlueMaemo is a remote controller program for the Maemo-powered devices. With BlueMaemo you can turn your Maemo-powered device in a mixed Bluetooth keyboard-and-mouse device through the HID Bluetooth profile.
The first BlueMaemo release can be found in the project download page, you must have the Maemo base repository enable in order to satisfy all the BlueMaemo dependencies.
The application are in a beta state right now, so all the suggestions are welcome, I also need some help to figure a way to turn on and off the bluetooth adapter of the devices, if anybody know a way to do this (d-bus,system call...) I appreciate the help :)
More information about the project can be found in: http://www.valeriovalerio.org/?page_id=174 (usage instructions, to-do list...)

I’m sure a lot of you have been trying out the latest release of Fennec (Alpha 1) already on your Nokia Maemo devices. If you haven’t heard of Fennec, it’s the highly anticipated mobile browser from Mozilla, mobile version of Firefox as others would say, that is currently on alpha stage, and primarily being tested on the Maemo platform.
Madhava Enros, Fennec’s User Experience Lead gives us a quick walktrhough:
<object width="400" height="300">

Fennec Alpha 1 will work on both Diablo and Chinook (install). If you don’t have a Maemo device, you can try Fennec on your desktop as well (Windows, Mac, Linux).

Canola2 Updates - Beta7, Themes, and YouTube Plug-in (Internet Tablet Talk)
[6 views, last view 5 d and 1 h ago]
The IDdT guys have been busy with Canola2. Today they announced Beta7 and the much anticipated YouTube plug-in.
The first major Canola2 plug-in, the YouTube plug-in allows you to search, bookmark and save videos from YouTube. It still has problems with the seek functionality which INdT hopes to help mplayer with. Developers can now take a peek at the plug-in source code which can pave the way for additional third-party Canola2 plug-ins.
Three additional Canola2 themes have also been added for everyone to download — Deep Blue, Flat Red, and Flat Black. They are available for download at the Canola2 Add-ons page.

If you are installing the YouTube plug-in, make sure to upgrade to Beta7 first via the Application Manager. New users can directly install the latest Canola2 version from the official Canola2 install page.

OS2008 Custom Theme Maker (Internet Tablet Talk)
[6 views, last view 6 d and 5 h ago]

Urho Konttori just released Theme Maker 1.1.3, an OS2008 (Chinook) theme maker. The app, that runs on a PC, Mac, Linux, takes in an 8000 (not a typo) x 800 pixel .PNG file and automatically dissects them to hundreds of components and then packages them to a debian (.deb) installer file. Urho provides a template file (in .psd) that he suggests you edit in Adobe Photoshop or GIMP.

To give everyone an idea on how huge the template is and I guess how long Urho has been working on the dissecting program on his Theme Maker, below is the full template where I highlighted (in red) part of which I used on the image above.

Urho, famous for his Media Converter, Theme Maker, and UKMP apps, and a regular in the forums, joined Nokia earlier this year.

[dsp-flac] Dsp flac released (Maemo Garage Opensource projects for Nokia N800)
[13 views, last view 6 d and 15 h ago]
Ixonos Plc is proud to present a dsp accelerated flac audio codec for N800/N810 tablets.
It should be possible to compile the code for 770 too but I don't have one so can't test it.
The codec is based on libFLAC library by Josh Coalson. It uses dsp gateway for communication between arm and dsp.
I have tested the codec with multiple music albums and when measuring the processing time with time command it seems to reduce the arm load almost 50%. In real time it seems to be slower than the arm only library but that is not a problem because it is still fast enough for audio playback.
The release includes 2 files:
1) A quick and dirty debian package for making installation easier. I have tested it with N800 and N810 and it worked ok but you are using it at your own risk. The package is based on the ogg-support debian package by Tuomas Kulve.
The debian package also includes an unmodified GStreamer flac plugin compiled from gst-plugins-good package.
2) a tar.gz package containing sources for arm and dsp code and the debian package. See README for installation and compilation instructions.
For more details see release notes.
This is the first release of the dsp flac codec. If there are some problems with the files, copyrights, licenses etc. please let me know. All comments are welcome!

[Roadmap for Maemo] Roadmap-1.1.0i released with OpenStreetMaps downloads! (Maemo Garage Opensource projects for Nokia N800)
[6 views, last view 7 d and 8 h ago]
Hello All,
Roadmap-1.1.0i has been released here at the garage. It features download of vector maps from openstreetmaps.org. So now maps are available for more than the U.S. The GUI tool allows download by lat/lon or GPS position and can take a bounding box or location/radius as parameters.
You can still use tiger maps also. But roadmap-1.1.0i now supports the 1.1.0+ mapset at http://roadmap.sourceforge.net. So if you're upgrading either-
1.(Recommended) delete all your old 1.1.0 tiger maps and download the 1.1.0+ versions of the usdir.rdm.tar.gz and bndSB.tar.gz files, plus whatever state maps you need. DO NOT USE ANY basemaps PACKAGE FROM THE GARAGE. (They are version 1.1.0.)
2. Keep all your old maps. They still work, but should not be mixed with 1.1.0+ maps.
The idea is one or the other, not both. Also to download maps, wget is required. So if you run into issues, verify it's installed first.
That in mind. Try it out. Report any bugs you find at the garage.
Cheers,
kernelpanic

Seamless Software Upgrade v4.2008.36-5 is out! (Internet Tablet Talk)
[1 views, last view 11 d and 23 h ago]
A Seamless Software Upgrade (SSU) notification should prompt you of a v4.2008.36-5 firmware update once you go online with your Maemo 4.1 (Diablo) device. The update aims to improve email, web browsing, and connectivity.
Early reports from itT members are mixed. Some have updated with no problems and have reported faster browsing, while others are experiencing locks, boot menu problems, looping reboots, and package conflicts which seem to get fixed after a manual reflash.
If you have installed anything out of the ordinary, be sure to read through the comments before updating.

Nokia N810 Internet Tablet WiMAX Edition Finally Ships (Internet Tablet Talk)
[1 views, last view 11 d and 23 h ago]

Internet Tablet Talk member mafranklin has reported that he has received his Nokia N810 Internet Tablet WiMAX Edition, and has confirmed that it is connecting to XOHM WiMAX, which is surprisingly active already in Chicago. According to him:
The Nokia N810 WiMax did arrive today following shipment from Nokia yesterday. Once powered up it automatically detected the XOHM nextwork here in Chicago. My registration for XOHM services failed with my Chicago zip code so I registered with a friends zip code in Baltimore (went in later and changed my billing address), selected the device, service plan and connected to the XOHM network.
XOHM is currently offering their WiMAX On-the-Go plan for $30/month for six months(for limited time) and $45/month thereafter.
mafranklin ordered his Nokia N810 Internet Tablet WiMAX Edition directly from the Nokia USA Store for $443 after a $50 automatic promo discount. Buy.com also has the tablet for $404.99 but is currently out of stock.
